Post Andrew and your insurance coverage (sales, credit, how much)

I was talking with a rep from All Lines Insurance getting a quote on insurance for a home I was looking at. I received the quote and seen a 1400 credit on the premium, she said it was for the roof. She went on to say that after andrew that with the stiffer building codes that thery are issuing a credit if your roof meets that requirement.

So of course the home Im looking at was built in 1992, the same year as Andrew, so not sure if it will be eligble for that credit or not. I asked the realitor if she could find out and she said the only way is once I put in a offer, they can find out from the appaiser. Does that seem right? Could she find out when the house was built month and not just the year? I hwould hate to be stuck if the owner accepts my offer and the roof is not up to the new codes.

The stiffer building codes would not have taken effect that quickly IMO. Andrew was August '92. The property appraisers website usually will list the month/year of sales history.

How much does insuring a home in So. Florida cost? Say a home of about 1800 sf built in the last 10 years. Knowing this would help me...I might have an interview in Broward Co. next month.
