Hello,

My husband has received a job offer in Boca Raton. We would be relocating from Jacksonville, FL. We both work in education meaning our salaries are "decent" for us but necessarily for the area. Where is a nice place for us to live? We do not have any children. We are hoping we would not have to pay more than $1400 per month until I am able to get full time employment. I am working on my dissertation so we need someplace quiet. We can live in a one bedroom for the first year if needed. We would prefer no more than a 30 minute drive to the FAU campus.

Switch your search to Deerfield/Coconut Creek and you might hit your price point.

Boca/East Delray will be out and if it is in your price point it will be an Over 55 community (Century Village/High Point) or ghetto.

You are correct City Guy997S. My husband was looking online today and thought he found some place perfect until I realized that it was a 55+ community. We are not there yet. I will take a look at the Deerfield/Coconut Creek.

If you want Boca $1400 will get you a 1 bedroom.

You could also try Boynton Beach.

$1400 is pretty low for a rental in a decent neighborhood anywhere in South Florida, unfortunately.
If you look into Boynton Beach - be sure to look west.
East Boynton is not a safe area.

I'd suggest coming down and driving around and looking for "for rent" signs, from private landlords who don't advertise.

Best of luck!

If you move off season so April or May till Nov you can often find a short term furnished rental for much cheaper. I did that before. This would allow you to get employment and look for a long term place. With private rentals most often you put first, last and one no the security deposit. Many private landlords will negotiate monthly price.

Default Good Information

Thanks guys for all of this information. My husband and I will make a final decision by the end of this week. It challenging because out place in Jacksonville is $925 per month and we are in a fantastic neighborhood. We cannot afford the equivalent in Boca. This decision will not be easy.
