Hello all,

All of the information so far has been so helpful and I have read everything on the forum regarding Boytnon Beach but as my husband and I just put a bid in on a house I was hoping to get some area specific opinions on where we are looking to move.

The house is off of Seacrest on SW13th Avenue and it seems like a nice location from a general observation just because it is 5 minutes from the beach, even closer to 95 (he will be working in Hollywood and I will be in Lake Worth; so Boynton was our midpoint, sort of, locale), and blocks from 2 grocery stores and other amenities as well as some nice intracostal waterside restaurants.

That said I know from reading various posts that there are alot of different opinions about living in Boynton at all and if so east of 95. Any opinions on the area we are prospectively going to be living in? From a distance it seems nice enough but I would love to get some more detailed information and background just to feel at least a little more informed before the next step !

Thanks!

Did you see Boynton Lakes before you put the offer in? It's on the other side of 95. The homes are newer, (mid 80's)I believe the area you are looking at the homes were built in the 50's. The area is a little nicer. Still a couple minutes to 95 and not far from the beach.
Staying west of 95 is usually a better idea. The area you are looking in isn't too bad but there are some rough areas around it.

A half way between Lake Worth and Hollywood? Boynton is only one (and a half) town away from Lake Worth! I wouldn't live anywhere in Boynton Beach west of US1 unless it is also west of Military Trail. That's not to say that everything in between is bad, but the good pockets seem to get eaten alive by the bad pockets. Also, Seacrest generally cuts through high crime neighborhoods. I agree with the above, if it has to be Boynton near 95, check out Boynton Lakes or really the west side of 95 in general. Otherwise, I would consider living in a totally different town at a true half way point, like Boca Raton or even Deerfield Beach if Boca is too expensive. Keep in mind that although an area like Deerfield also has rough spots, it definitely will be more of a true half way point.

Also something to consider is the flow of traffic: heading north is easy, south bound is where you will encounter most of it. From Boynton, you will have to head WAY south to Hollywood, and in fact it may be a good idea to live near the turnpike if you are commuting to Hollywood, not I-95. Heading from Boynton or Lake Worth to Hollywood at rush hour is usually fine, but can mean slow-moving traffic in some spots (down as low as 45 MPH on I-95 near downtown Ft. Lauderdale) and just a high volume of cars to negotiate in general. By comparison, heading from Hollywood to Lake Worth at rush hour is a piece of cake on either I-95 or the turnpike.

So basically, if you are looking to be right near the coast, I would head more towards the true center for various reasons, just for the simple fact that most of Boynton west of US1 and east of 95 isn't particularly desirable to live in.

It seems that you don't know your areas very well as you refer to East of 95 and west of Federal as a high crime area. What you meant to say was it is a poorer area north of Boynton Beach Blvd up to Hypoluxo Rd and the people that choose to live there are majority of African American descent. This does not make it a 'high crime' area!!!!!! The area north of Atlantic Ave Delray and Boynton Beach Blvd between 95 and the ocean is desirable period for a plethora of races , there may be some pockets of cheaper homes which reflect "poorer' neighbporhoods but all in all it is a great place to live and the people are friendly.
Orchidlily, There will always be crime no matter where you go
don't sweat the small stuff, that is a great area to live, Chapel Hill, Woolbright and north Delray are fine places. If you want to be near the beach, move east of 95. Good luck

Just a word of caution....let's answer the OP's question without making it a racial thread.

I really don't care about the demographic of the area, it's not even all poorer or majority Black, it's just that the whole Boynton area between US1 and Military Trail has a lot of burglaries and isn't a true half way point, nor is it a particularly outstanding area (downtown Delray withstanding which is a different town that I WOULD recommend) to make up for the location.

I have to agree with Compelled to Reply.... The area between Federal and Congress at least, isn't so great. I drive through it every day and I see drug dealers and worse all the time.

I think in Boynton you either go WAAAAAY east or WAAAAAAY west. There's another post on here about crime in Boynton Beach that you might also want to read.

Best of luck.
