Ibis, Mirasol, PGA National, Ballenisles, Ironhorse = out west, lots of freshwater lakes = snakes/gators. You could honestly drive through each community tommorow and spot gators laying alongside the lakes/canals especially on a sunny day.

Twice I have seen gators run across Northlake Blvd right in front of my car out by Ibis.

Does any Florida native or South Florida native know if alligators climb to home owners' backyard, especially the above Harbour Isles and Prosperity Harbour ?

Thanks !
Oh of course! If you live in one of those subdivisions where your backyard is directly adjacent to a canal or lake, there will be alligators. But most people install gates or have patios to offset that and all the other little critters like snakes and mosquitoes. But alas, this is the price you pay for having a house near a lake in FL. Not worth it. Especially if you have a phobia of these animals like I do. I HATE snakes. I will not be looking back when I hit I-10 west.

Dry lot homes can be 3MM, oceanfront can be 20MM and it is a wonderful country club that is oceanfront on the east, intracoastal to the west. Lots of Fortune 500 CEO's live there and lots of wealthy Canadians.
Out of curiosity, I will check out Lost Tree Village ... on line, obviously I am not one of those Fortune 500 or wealthy Canadians

I am confused but did you mean properties backing onto FRESH water where gators live instead of salt water ?

The Florida real estate market is unreal.

I'll take roaches over fires, landslides, and hours of traffic any day. Have you ever even seen an alligator or a snake outside of a park/zoo??

While these homes are priced on the high side, please show me a 4000 sqft house with ocean access for 600k in San Diego. 600k in San Diego gets you roughly an 1800-2400 sqft home.

To each is own, and while you might not like Florida, Floridians don't like people spending all their time complaining about living here...

Living in Florida 20 years now (came here as a kid), I recall seeing about four gators in various ponds or canals around residential areas. Luckily, never came across a poisonous snake.

Now, I know NEVER to go swimming in a retention pond or canal (which is gross to me anyway, since they are glorified drainage ditches)... but stray alligators has NEVER been a concern of mine. My backyard is also only inhabited by the odd garter snake, and occasional large lizard. Lizards don't bother me, though, and they never come into the house!

Pure naive outlook on Allen's part. Not to mention, 10% income tax and higher sales tax.

Sometimes I think people just find themselves in situations that would make anyone miserable anywhere - no job, no skills in demand for the area - and then project their unhappiness on the state, as if it's the STATE'S fault!

For Canadians from Ontario & Quebec, Florida is a better fit as it is closer and we are only allowed to stay in the States for 6 months/year as per current laws.

However, according to the Canadian Snowbird Association which is canvassing the US government to pass a new law that I came across online yesterday, something called Canadian Retiree Visa, it is an 8 month visa for retirees over 50 years of age (I don't know if it is true or not as I haven't surf the net for that).

Ontario at the moment allows residents away from their home province for 7 months without their OHIP (medical) interrupted.

I have been to San Diego and I think it is a pretty boring city, no where in comparison to Florida, frankly. Having said that, San Diego has a more Spring like weather year round. So if one likes Spring like weather year round, then San Diego is a better fit; However if one likes more summer year round and what Florida has to offer, then Florida is a better fit.
