Was thinking after a reply to an earlier post about Toyota. I know they have a factory somewhere in West Virginia, even though it is a "foreign car" they produce vehicles in the US and hire WV workers. What other company names either originated in WV or invest a lot in WV. United Bank also comes to mind when I think of a WV company. If I have a choice I like to buy local or at least use WV products.
Toyota has a plant in Eleanor, WV (Putnam County) that makes transmissions for the the Toyota line.
Hino trucks are a part of the Toyota family and they have their only USA Assembly plant in Williamstown. The plant assembles about 38 trucks daily with employment over 100 people. The majority of the parts are shipped from overseas here for assembly.
Cool never heard of Hino trucks. Doesn't Johnson & Johnson have a plant in Charleston. I'm sure those chemical plants down there create a lot of products. I think Morgantown would be a great place for new companies just because it has a high proportion of college grads. I know a lot of the pepperoni rolls I see are made in Clarksburg. Also there used to be a glass industry, Marbles?
A few companies that make or distribute products just in the Parkersburg area alone:
Dupont (teflon)
Hino Trucks
Fenton Art Glass
Coldwater Creek
Mister Bee
I can add 3 more that have closed since I moved to MTSB-WV
Corning
Royce Hosiery
Ther was a sewing factory here also!
