@ spunkydawg - "tragically died"? Are you planning my demise? I wouldn't say I'm really an "old fogey" but, whatever
Admittedly, I'm a "transplant" to WV, Eastern Panhandle area. Originally from the upstate NY area where I spent alot of years saying "pop". Then, fast forward several years to a move in PA (3 or 4 years, still have familiar ties to the state) - learning how to say "soda". Fast forward several years of military moves and you're constantly with people from all over the globe. I would guess that it's not too difficult to imagine saying soda sometimes and pop, other times? Whatever I hear the most - I begun to use it, until I hear otherwise. Then I switch gears and use that term if I'm hearing that used alot.
When you get a perplexed look for saying soda, you take a quick breath and add pop (most always, get that look of recognition then). Some areas, the word soda has a different meaning to people. If I can't see a menu of what beverages they have, I'll just ask what kind of non-alcoholic beverages they have -or- usually now my choice is just water with lemon in it. Sometimes beer. Sometimes mixed drink, Sometimes iced tea (preferably fruit infused).
So many choices, so little time (especially when someone is planning on my "dying off" eh, spunkydawg? ).
Stopped by the Exxon at the state line and there's a sign at the pumps advertising "ice cold Pop".
Why would they be advertising my dad??
