Has anyone else noticed a lot the leyland cypress trees in and around Jefferson/Berkeley Co's are dying? Anyone know the causes?

I live in Washington County, Md. and we have leyland cypress damage over here as well. The harsh winter is mostly to blame. Some of the trees that are in more "protected" areas show much less browning. I have seen large stands of the trees completely dead in a lot of open areas.
