New to WV and searching for a house (Fairmont, Hedgesville: real estate, houses)

Hi fellow West Virginians!

I recently moved to West Virginia, and am completely clueless about this state. I am currently house hunting. Fairmont has been my main location for house hunting. It looks like a decent town, and generally safe for a woman living alone. There are some houses close to downtown Fairmont that I really like. I wanted your experience and input on which specific neighborhood/spots are safe. Also open to other areas upon your recommendations.

Welcome to the best state! :-) I chose WV as well. Not a native. I'll never leave! I live in Hedgesville, so I don't know about Fairmont. I have a few faves in the state over this area, but where I'm at is pretty cool.
