Hello ladies and Gentleman, I was wandering if I could get some guidance from some of you.

I'm looking at buying a vacation home "really really want a Cabin" in West Virginia. Somewhere close to places were I could ride some Side by Side trails, ski and hike oh and a big Lake. I want something affordable and beautiful. I'm retiring from the Military This October I bought my dream home in Evansville Indiana last year.

What Cities or Towns would you all recommend and why

Thank you in advance.

I found these two

Princeton and Bluefield aren't typically my favorite areas of the state. I would stick east of I-79 and I-77. Those are the most scenic areas of the state and will have everything that you're looking for.

I'll group it by region:

Southern Counties: Monroe, Summers, Greenbrier, Fayette, Nicholas
Northern Counties: Pocahontas, Randolph, Tucker
Panhandle Counties: Grant, Hardy, Pendleton

They're all great options. I have an affinity for those northern counties though.

Check out the area south of Beckley in Raleigh County. It'll put you close to Winterplace Ski Resort, Bluestone Lake, the New River Gorge, as well as the Burning Rock Off-Road Park and the Pinnacle trail head for the Hatfield McCoy ATV trail system.

You could also look at buying land and building what you want.

You should seriously consider Garrett County, Maryland. Deep Creek/Wisp/Oakland area. It's in that little "triangle" of Maryland that dips down into West Virginia. https://www.visitdeepcreek.com/

This area is frequently shown on the Lake Cabin Living TV show, I think on HGTV.

Everything at Deep Creek, you can get in WV. And for a lot cheaper and a lot lower taxes

Deep Creek is further away from Evansville too. If Deep Creek was closer, I would say it is worth a look, but driving more and paying more is probably not necessary to get what you are looking for.

Alpine Lake Resort in Preston County, WV is right near the MD border so you would be a short drive (18 miles) to Wisp Ski Resort in MD. About an hour drive to Canaan Valley ski resort in Tucker County WV. Alpine is on the smallish side but it is really pretty there. There is a lake and golfing. Below are photos and a webcam.

Home and lot prices are reasonable too for a vacation home.
