I am originally from the Philly area and was able to get pickled tomatoes at various stores.Since i moved to the WV/MD/VA area it seems i can no longer find anyplace that carries PICKLED TOMATOES.I would be willing to travel about an hour from the Falling Waters area if anyone has any suggestions or locations.Thanks.

Call the Inwood Farmers Market and ask if they have them (304) 229-5011
Inwood Farmers Market - LocalHarvest

Horst Meats in Hagerstown may know; 301-733-1089 or try Holsingers market in Hagerstown 301-733-9263.

Check the farmers markets in Hagerstown too.

My wife and I used to make pickled tomatos, watermelon rind, squash, okra... well pretty much anything..

We even made tomato jam, and boy is THAT good!

wondering if you couldn't aquire the skills to make them yourself. Canning is an art, mostly has to do with making sure everything remains sterile through every step. I saw ball jar cases being sold in Kmart, along with giant sized steamer pot running about 18-$22. Might be worth the investment. Here's a recipe I found online.
Cooks.com - Recipe - Green Tomato Pickle

GREEN TOMATO PICKLE
1/4 pkg. (1 3/4 lb.) green tomatoes
4 onions
1/4 c. salt
4 peppers, chopped
1 qt. vinegar
1/2 tsp. celery seed
1/2 tsp. mustard seed
1 tbsp. whole allspice
1 tbsp. whole cloves
1 lb. sugar

Firm, small to medium green tomatoes (entirely green, not partially ripe) and firm, white onions. Wash well. Slice tomatoes and onions, sprinkle with salt and let stand overnight. Rinse well in cold water; add peppers. To the vinegar, add spices (tied in a bag) and sugar. Mix with vegetables and cook for about 2 hours. Remove spice bag. Seal pickle in clean, hot sterilized jars.
Makes five 1 pint jars.

For crisp pickles we always threw a handful of copper pennies into the pot (make sure they're really COPPER, not the later ones made of alloy)

When I was a kid, grandma had a copper boiler that worked great too.

Just had a pulled pork BBQ sandwhich with coleslaw on top. No pickles though..

Made the BBQ in the crock-pot.

Needless to say, I'm not hungry right now.

I'm with you Janipoo...I would buy Salt Rising at Yoder's in Grantsville before they went out of business...I'm told a bakery in Morgantown has it but I forgot about it until your post...
Yoder's had those pickled tomatoes too...Hope the craving is satisfied...

The thing about these green tomatoes...they get fried in the cast iron before they get pickled in the jar...
