Hi!! I am going to be relocating to keyser because of my job. I'm taking aweek long trip in february to check it out. Can anyone give me any pointers on the area? I will be hopefully bringing my 5 year old son. Any pointers on the school system? thanks!!
Ehh, I've only been there a few times. Some of my friends go to college at Potomac State. It seemed kinda small with only one two lane road going through town.. Which isn't a bad thing. It's close to Cumberland, MD though like 15 minutes or something... Thats were my friends go to shop and stuff
Keyser bills itself as the "Friendliest City in America." That may be a bit of an exageration, but overall it is a nice little city. I don't know how familiar you are with the Potomac Highlands of WV, but it is typical of the area. Beautiful natural setting tucked in the Allegheny Mountains with the Potomac River forming the north border of town. There are some great old houses that reflect on the cities former importance in the Industrial Age that can be gotten for very cheap. Cost of living are very cheap too.
On the negative side, the town peaked in about 1950 and very little growth has happened there since, unless you count Super Walmart. There are a good deal of dilapidated and abandoned buildings, but no more or less what is usual for the area. Jobs are tough to come by too. There is some crime, break-ins, small time drug busts, etc. but nothing even resembling what you would find in the "city."
Overall I would say Keyser is a good place to live. If you like the area and want to live somewhere a little bigger, try Cumberland, MD only about 20 miles away. If you want a more country setting, there are many little small towns in the county and neighboring Western Maryland.
hi... i'm from the county over from keyser... It is a medium kind of neighborhood..Lots of traffic in the day time..There is a high school, middle, and elementary in the town.. Theres also a wal-mart and a few little shopping places. It is about 20-25 mins from the main shopping area (Cumberland/Lavale, Md.) It is a nice little place... Most of the houses are on top of each other the way i like to say meaning all the houses are right beside each other in the neighbor hoods. If you need any more info let me know. Hope this helped you out a little bit!
Hey, anyone from the Keyser area know a Linden Willis? I believe that's how his name is spelled. We were good friends that met during the early 80's at Fairmont State and of course over time have lost contact; I'd really like to know how he's doing and where he's at. If so, you can reach me by emailing information to icebluejag@peoplepc.com. Thanks!

Where will you be working? Are you looking to buy a house or rent? I am from Keyser. A good place to get your taxes done is the Tax Shelter. If you need to know anything about the town just ask me I've lived her for 58 yrs.
