Would have been nice if instead of the new Food Lion on Rt 9/Bardane-Kearneysville, that it was Bloom Alas, said it had something to do with the economics of the area. Guess that means we'll never get a Wegman's then?
I've been nagging Food Lion to turn the FL in Shepherdstown into a Bloom. The store was opened in the early 90's and doesn't even look like it was ever remodeled. I think they look at household income of the area. A lot of people in the EP commute to DC, so I don't know why the average income wouldn't be high enough to allow a Bloom to be put in.

Whats so bad about Food Lion? I love the new store on 9. I would prefer to go to a Food Lion vs Wegmans, Martins, Bloom, heck even weis. I feel like I spend a small fortune when I go to those other stores. Food Lion isn't the cheapest but it is compared to the other "posh" stores.

Food Lion is fine with me but over the years I have known so many people who flat out refuses to even step inside of a Food Lion because that chain is not only very very anti-union but Food Lion also busted up the supermarket union in the Shenahdoah Valley/Eastern Panhandle which resulted in the loss of many long time chains in our area such as A&P/Super Fresh, Safeway, and Acme and not to mention doing severe damage to some of those mom/pop stores like Charles Town's Whites Supermarket or the Marketplace in Berryville

Today most people don't remember, much less even care about the days of the unionized supermarket but there are still a number of older folks who have "memories" of watching their beloved Uncle Joe smoking his Winston while spraying water on produce at the A&P then passing out free candy to the youngsters only to ending up losing his job "because" of Food Lion.

Funny looking back now A&P and Safeway chances are would had ended up being defunct in our area anyway even if Food Lion never existed since they were dinosaurs and refused to change ( such as refusing to be open late at night and very questionable customer service ) unlike then-smaller chains like Martins and Weis who had changed over the years. Who is around the area today?

You all need a Gander Mountain

that would go great in thaat old Lowe's
I doubt Martinsburg would get a Gander Mountain because there's one to the south of Martinsburg in Winchester,VA and one to the North in Chambersburg, PA. Plus we have a Dick's Sporting Goods.

I would love to see a Cabela's. Several years ago there was talk about building one just north of the 'burg in Spring Mills.
