Just wondering...does it still smell like steel there on "calm" mornings?

You're very close, an hour or less to Pittsburgh.

i too am a survivor of weirton. my folks are from there and i lived there until 9. no one i am related to lives there now so we don't ever go to visit. we lived on marland heights. the only thing good about weirton is dicarlo's pizza, but we have 4 in columbus, so there is no reason to go there. why would you move there?

I too grew up near there(east liverpool)until I was 12. I must say, since living in alot of cities, that area is the most gloomiest, industrial, smelly Ive ever seen. But we always had the Steelers to chear for every year hehe

ps.. those square pizzas are the best. better then Brooklyn,ny pizza. I remember coming home from pee wee football practice and getting 4 slices mmmmm the best.

Default Weirton is a great place!!

Check out Defelice Bros. Pizza, Belmontes Pizza, Tim Horton's(Steubenville,OH), Dicarlos Pizza, Undo's, Dee-Jay's Ribs, The Ville(Fort Steuben Mall-Steubenville, OH)...all good food. Tim Horton's Donuts are so damn good its sickening Mountaineer casino in Chester, Wheeling Island Casino, Post Gazette paviilion(Burgettstown,pa great concerts), Wheeling Nailers Minor League Hockey, and Tomlinson Run State Park(hiking, swimming, etc.) Grave Creek Mound Burial Site in Moundsville, WV 45 minutes south on rt. WV 2 is pretty cool too. Glen Dale, WV is Brad Paisley(country musician) hometown. West 25 miles on US 22 Robinson Town Centre in Pittsburgh, PA...great shopping and dining.

That's just sad. I grew up in Weirton and now live just south of there. I still send two of my kids to private schools in Weirton and my parents are there so I'm always there. I just never realized how little there is to do in that town. The one thing IN Weirton is the Millsop Community Center. They have various sports leagues, fitness classes, swimming, etc. Very nice facility.

Other things to do in the surrounding area: Wheeling Park, Oglbay Park including the Good Zoo, The Toy Museum in Elm Grove (Wheeling), Brooke Hills Park and Golf Course in Wellsburg, Pier 12 Restaurant in Wellsburg.

If you go as far as Moundsville to see the Mounds, check out times to go through the old WV Penitentiary. Very spooky. I know they have special tours around Halloween but I think they might have daytime tours year round. Also in that area is the Hare Krishna Palace of Gold. Quite a sight.

The best thing about Weirton is the low cost of living with close proximity to the Pittsburgh area. You're within 30 minutes of the airport, and 45 minutes of downtown Pittsburgh. It's practically a suburb of Pittsburgh. That said, you won't truly be a Weirton-ite until you've visited Kennywood Park in Weirton. It's a tradition. Go to First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union on Main Street across for the library and see if they have reduced priced tickets yet. (Not sure what month they stock them) Kennywood is not only a great amusement park but it also encourages you to bring coolers with your own food and provides a nice picnic shelter. Our summer wouldn't be complete without at least one trip to Kennywood.

Make a New Memory at Kennywood Park, Pittsburgh PA
