We are a group of journalism students at West Virginia University working on a multimedia project called West Virginia Uncovered. We create multimedia packages on topics on rural areas around the state and then run the stories in the local newspapers there, as well as in the Charleston Daily Mail.
We have an idea for a story about eastern panhandle (specifically Hampshire County) residents who commute to D.C. or other areas in Virginia for work. We'd like to hear your story. {Mod Cut: No email addresses, please PM from Responses}Thank you!
We never lived in Hampshire County but we had a weekend home in Paw Paw (Morgan County) that we went to every weekend. We found the WV people so friendly that we ended up moving to WV. Paw Paw was too rural for us so we ended up in Falling Waters.
To help you out for your project.
Go to Martinsburg, WV. In the AM be at the Train station for MARC.
You will have quite a few folks commuting on a daily basis.
I would advise to purchase a round trip ticket to Union Station or cheaply to Harpers Ferry. If you find a person who will provide your story content you could share a coffee on the ride and garner your info.
I used to live in Green Spring (Hampshire County) and drive to Herndon,VA for work.
I just google-mapped it and that's a 2 and a Half Hour drive without traffic! Ouch!
