This was a great development for Morgantown, and I was wondering why they might have scratched it?

Any Input, or let me know if a project you favored had been scratched

It was right in the downtown campus

Parking and the future traffic congestion that it would have caused was the reason it was shot down.

I hope the developers can build it in another location, perhaps near Mylan Park, as the city of Morgantown will grown in that direction.

Don't worry, the development of Morgantown will be first class and in line with the best done in this country.

The private money is here.

Unless that private money is Warren Buffett's, there is no way in the world Morgantown's development will ever be "first class". It's already terrible...you'd have to have these venture capitalists fix the entire 705/WWR/Stewartstown/I-68 interchange area out of the kindness of their hearts...

According to an article from the DA earlier this year/late last year, the project is on hold due to funding issues.

People also don't seem too keen on the Augusta as there is a Facebook page called Augusta on the Square - Thank God I don't live there.

This is the article and an exerpt from it:

Powered by Google Docs

" The Square at Falling Run project was days away from securing the necessary funding to continue construction on phase two of the project when the United States was hit by the current economic crisis. The firm had secured 20 percent of the $200 million needed for the project, the minimum amount required by most financial institutions to finance a project prior to the credit crunch. National City, the financier of the Augusta on the Sqaure, made a verbal commitment to The Square at Falling Run, LLC, saying it would finance the remaining 80 percent, or $160 million, of phase two.“Prior to black Monday, financiers were ready to move,” said Kris Warner, chief financial officer for The Square at Falling Run LLC. Since the crunch, financial institutions require at least 30 to35 percent of the funds up front to consider financing a project, leaving e Square at Falling Run LLC in need of approximately $20 million to be considered by any financier. But there has been another holdup. PNC is in the process of acquiring National City Bank, therefore any monies promised to The Square at Falling Run by National City are no longer promised by PNC."

The problem with developments in Morgantown is the traffic flow. The city is to cramped together for anything too fancy.

Morgantown has two fine gentlemen with 6 billion dollars...they are locals who have done well.
They are the prime private investors in this great city.
no comment on Mr. Wa*ner...or his project, other than the one given.

And they are going to just give the DOH a few billion to fix the mess over in the Western side of town? Really?

No, they are not in the highway business at all...they are in the hospital business.

Our highways should be done by the government, but they do not seem to be very interested.

If the highway people could send a team of highway engineers to Portland, Oregon for a few weeks, they would see what could be done to make Morgantown workable.

Portland is divided by the Willamette River (about the size of the Mon). Overhead skyways 6 lanes wide take the traffic overhead and move it effortlessly around and away from the city. It also gives a wonderful Disneyland view or that city and its great buildings and river front.

These concrete roads are panelized and suspended on concrete pillars. Right of ways are almost not needed.

It's a model that should be imitated here as it is functional, cheap to build, and astetically beautiful.

Charleston has a smattering of this, but theres is too big and does not blend into the valley...all a person can see is concrete highway.

I agree with Mr. Kennedy, but Charleston's problem is that they need the large structure because there is no other room in the valley.
