Yup and yup! I love dutch oven cooking.

I'm really torn whether to put a woodstove in my fireplace or leave it be and install a crane. I'm leaning towards the woodstove myself.

2lbs venison, cut into 1" cubes
6cups of vegetables, incl red potatoes, celery, carrots, 1 white onion diced
1 small can sliced mushrooms
1.5 cups water and 1.5 cups beer
1 packet of McCormicks stew mix
2-3 bay leaves
salt and pepper to taste

Cut venison in cubes, dust with flour and brown in 3-4 tablespoons oil in the dutch oven. I add about two small cloves of minced garlic while frying.

Add water, beer and McCormicks packet to dutch oven and stir in. Simmer this for 45minutes.

Add vegetables and mushrooms after 45 minutes and simmer for another hour or so.

Done. You can add extra flour if you want to thicken it up to taste.

We had fresh pumpernickel bread with it (and I had a cold beer, lol)
