I live in Pittsburgh, and the rest of my family live in Charleston, WV...We're planning on a week long Camping vacation, and figured I'de get some suggestions on where to plan said vacation!
here's our situation...
guests: 10-15 adults and 2 babies (under 3)
we're looking for cabins to house all of us, most likely two to three cabins, in the same vicinity.
of course, we'll need powered cabins.
we'de like a lake in close proximity, with decent fishing, and also a beer store nearby!
we're open to anywhere from southern WV up to the Morgantown area...
Yokum's near Petersburg, Wv...a great place to do everthing you asked and see the very best of a lot of Wv scenery.
All new log cabins with all the trimings...and you can get a good breakfast in town if cabin fever sets in.
What is near:
Seneca Rocks and Caverns, trout fishing on the North Fork and in Smokehole, Smokehole (a 2000 ft canyon of walled golden and gray sandstone), hiking trails to Landis and beyond, Spruce Nob and Lake...Rail Road depot in Petersburgh and old civil war mansions to tour.
Elkins, Dry Fork (a pristine fly fishing spot), Bemis, Glady and Bowden is on the other side of the mountain.
....you will want to make several trips to see it...most compacted of great Wv beauty.
Glad I could help.
Best route from Pittsburgh? ha ha...the trip in will be part of the experience.
I-68 to Cumberland and down 220...or I-79 to Weston, Buckhannon/Elkins and over the mountain with a late lunch in Alpena.
Holly River SP is near Burnsville and Sutton lakes, has cabins, a pool, horseshoe pits..
Cabins have-
stone fireplace
electric baseboard heat
bath with shower
fully equipped kitchen w/ modern appliances and Utensils
towels, dishcloths, and linens
