I called the Lewisboro library about trying to get an obituary column for someone who passed away in the late 1990's.
They were somewhat unclear on whether the local paper went back that far.
Can anyone help me on this?
Thanks.

What happened is that Gannett purchased smaller local newspapers to merge into The Journal News, covering a larger area including Putnam, Rockland, and Northern Westchester. Prior to the consolidation, the Northern Westchester area was served by The Reporter Dispatch and The Patent Trader. I would imagine that the archives would still exist somewhere, though you might check Mount Kisco for The Patent Trader and White Plains for The Reporter Dispatch to see if the libraries have microfilms of the older editions, as those were the home cities for the respective papers. Since Gannett purchased the papers, perhaps someone at The Journal News would know where to find the requested obituary.

The reference desk at the Mount Kisco library can be reached at (914) 864-0038.

The reference desk at the White Plains library can be reached at (914) 422-1480.

The reference desk at the Katonah library can be reached at (914) 232-3508. I included Katonah because the collections do cover local history, so you may find the information you seek, or someone who knows where to find it through Katonah.

The main number for The Journal News in White Plains is (914) 694-9300.

The main number for the Westchester Library System that networks among the various libraries in Tarrytown is (914) 674-3600.

Good luck with your research, and I hope that you can contact someone who knows where to find the information you seek.

Thank you for the help, and advice, and sorry for the delay.
I'll pass the details on to the person seeking to locate their ancestors and they can visit the library or give them a call.
