And thanks in advance to anyone who can respond. As I research more and more, the more I get disheartened.
Considerations:
1) I don't have a car and work in the Bronx, so the apartment would have to be within walking distance of a Metro North train.
2) I don't have children, and thus, don't care about schools.
3) I really, really, hate litter and grafitti. The co-op I am in now is fine and beautiful, but, once you walk out of the small community (a few blocks or so), then there's litter and such, and it irks me more than it would the average person, I think. I'd like a place where I can walk around town and have it be relatively litter and grafitti-free. I also don't like the buildings that have been grafittied but are subsequently painted at the bottom to try and disguise it.
4)Safety is a must, because I'm a single woman.
5)I'm working on building a downpayment, so any place that offers 10, 15 down would be wonderful, but I know I'll probably have to make that 20 down if I want some decent.
SO....... is this even possible? For under 130,000?
ANY help would appreciated - either a yes, it's doable and here's where, or a HELL, NO. Just so I have more to go on.
Sure it is. A quick search show a one bedroom in tuckahoe for 120k. Less than 5 min walk to the station. Nice little area. I would also look at bronxville PO or fleetwood (neighborhood in mt. Vernon).
Thanks for helping me out with suggestions. I was originally looking at bronxville po and then fleetwood, but then dismissed them after seeing some signs of grafitti. Tuckahoe is a new option for me to do research on, so thanks for that. I'm also looking into Hartsdale now, too.
Here is what I think... You have put so many conditions on this that I don't think it's something you're really ready for. You want to be a homeowner but you know you're not ready so you're looking for the super duper perfect house that doesn't exist.
I don't think I'm looking for a super duper house. I don't need a doorman or a gym or an excellent school or 1000 sq ft of living space. I just want something clean, safe, with good transportation.
I was getting to the point where I was mentally saying... ahhh, forget it, just plan on renting forever, so it's good to have some advice from others about what's within my reach. Thanks.
