This is for folks around Hartsdale, Scarsdale, White Plains neighborhoods.

We are not great gardener or something but lately DW is interested in planting small herbs in the pots. We got Scotts Moisture Control soil from Home Depot but seems like it holds too much of moisture and the plants are not thriving. So I did some googling and noted that the soil needs to well drained one.

Previous soil was the one recommended by Miracle Grow, supposedly made exclusively for such use. It did not work either.

Made a trip to Home Depot and then do not have anything new. So I thought how about adding coarse/horticultural sand and stuff but I did not find that either. The have fine sand like play sand. The guys working there have no clue either. So now, I am really fed up with Home Depot.

I wonder if anybody has any recommendation for buying small scale gardening supplies. I checked the nursery on Central ave but the guy came across as 'I don't need your business'. So what other option do I have? Is there any place that sells gardening supplies at reasonable price?

Thanks in advance.
