Ken, The combination of info/advice from bmwguydc, mead, and sarah 3910 is as good as it gets...I am a North Rockland resident for the past six years and use to commute down to the Bronx for work (approx. 40 something miles give or take) I had the luxury of working off hours thereby avoiding traffic (retired NYPD)...You would def. be better off staying on the Putnam/ Westchester side of the Hudson river...as far as your price range for a home? kinda tough...good luck to you and your family!
whats my price range? I'm not looking to buy...I can tell you this much...what it was in 2002 when i first purchased the house sure wouldnt get me the same property in 2008....
Hello we are moving from Florida and I am not familier with NY at all. My wife's job is relocating us to White Plains and we are looking for insight as to what the best affordable place to live would be.
We are looking to be under 400k on a 3+ bedroom 2 bath home withinn 50 miles of White Plains. The more affordable areas seem to be north or west in Rockland and Orange counties, such as Stony Point, Peekskill etc. Are these areas commutable to white Plains? and if so how long of a commute would they be.
Any insight as to where to live would be great.
My advice: Click on the link below and click on the Tappan Zee at 5:00 on a Friday or 5:00 on a summer Thursday, or 8:30 AM on a Tuesday morning.
here in Florida I built a new home in 2005 which is a 4 bed 3 bath right around 3000sqft. with a lot of upgrades for just under 330,000.
That house is between $800k and $1.5 million around here.
