We chose Pelham for two reasons. First, the housing stock and prices were excellent. Second, we were planning on having children. (We have three now.) Of the school districts in Westchester, we were attracted by the diversity in post-high school choices of the Pelham students. We were somewhat turned off by communities in which the vast majority of children were attending ivies. The problem with schools with all high academic achievers, in our opinions, is that a child would feel socially coerced into attending an ivy or ivy-like school, whether appropriate or not. And having money is not the same thing as having the cognitive or behavioral makeup for ivy league schools. There are many other great choices in life, and we hope that our children explore different options. There are many many miserable college kids, who would be better served in other schools or other situations.
So how did it go Just arrived? We are a family moving to NYC from Europe and are interested in the area. Did you end up moving to Pelham, or? What we are looking for is the basic needs like, decent commute to Manhattan, good schools and walkable towntown area or even a downtown U can walk to.
