Okay...I'm looking for a suburban place/area with a city feel with a very good proximity to Manhattan. Or a city with a suburban feel-does something like this exist? I'm trying to stay out of Westchester b/c that's where i'm from... I was thinking LI but i don't think the commute is too nice. (This search is taking me forever) Also, looking to rent right now...
Well, what do you mean by city feel? Apartments and tall buildings or an active downtown area?
On LI, I would say the most active downtown areas include Great Neck, Rockville Centre, Huntington, Garden City. Maybe Oyster Bay, Glen Cove, Long Beach, Floral Park?
It all depends what you mean. No Westchester, but White Plains and New Rochelle are booming. Yonkers may be next.
FORGET YONKERS! I live there now. I'm looking into white plains but I want to see if there is anything better before I stay in Westchester. Both Apartments and tall buildings and active downtown area would be even better. LI is in consideration but man I've heard some pretty screwed up things about LI. Especially when it comes to diversity and race. I want a mini Manattan! Somewhere! lol Does anyone know how the rent on LI compares to that of Westchester?

What about Bayside Queens or Forest Hills (austin st area)? Nightlife, restaurants, some diversity. Those are hte only places that seem to meet your criteria.
Bayside rents go for about 1500 I believe and not sure about Forest Hills but they would be up there, probably 1500 to 2000 mth.
