Our family will be moving to Westchester, New York from Denmark for the beginning of the next school year. Our 16 years old son has moderate Cerebral Palsy and needs assistance in school. He is currently in grade 9, in an International school in Copenhagen, Denmark. He follows the regular curriculum, minus a few subjects to reduce his workload. He has no behavior problems or learning disability.
He is quite functional as he can walk (not very well), talk (not very clearly) and do most things on his own but his CP is affecting him from head to toe and this makes it difficult for him to accomplish tasks on his own and in a timely fashion.
From what I understand, he needs to be evaluated in order to get assistance in school and to be able to find the best school fit for him. We want to move to an area where he would get the best support. also, we don't know if he should be in a special school or a regular school.
Can you tell me how to go about this and which area would be the best for him. He has always been in small schools where everybody was looking out for him.
