My husband has been involved in church ministry for the past several years. He served as administration staff for a small Baptist church in our town here in Rimrock, AZ for four years, as well as playing on the worship team, and serving as a Sunday School teacher.
Most recently, he was the music director for another Baptist church in PA prior to our moving back here to AZ.
We are considering moving to Asheville, and will be visiting for a week in March.
What would be some good ways for my husband to inquire about music ministry opportunities/positions in your local churches? We are non-denominational, progressive, outside-the-box Christians...
WNC has a Baptist church on ever corner. There are 240 baptist churches, 67 methodists churches, 37 Church of God churches, 30 Presbyterian churches, 19 Episcopal Churches, 12 Catholic churches, all of these are within the Asheville mailing address. There are several other types as well.
If you go to www.usachurch.com/north_carolina/asheville/churches.htm you can get the address &/or phone number to every church in the area. The site also give you info on the church like how big the congregation is, if they have a website &/or email address.
I hope this helps you

Mrs, Barlow, Non-denom church positions are notoriously hard to find. I think perhaps calling and talking to area pastors might give you some leads. There are sites for pastoral job searches that also cater to non-clergy ministers like worship leaders.
All of the denoms have their own listings. More and more Methodist churches are seeking contemporary worship leaders. Let me know if that interests you and I'll send you the WNC conference link.
It's not that we're trying to find a specific non-denom church, it's just that we tend to distinguish ourselves as non-denominational Christians as opposed to Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, et al. So, really if an opportunity arose from a particular denominational church, we would look into it.
My husband leads with an acoustic guitar, and has no preference between traditional and modern songs. While he does not have any formal music education, he does have over 15 years of experience in playing, performing, writing, and producing music.
Some of his music that he has recorded can be found here (for free): Matthew Barlow
My husband has been on paid staff in his church ministry experiences. When working as an administrative assistant for a small Baptist church here in Arizona, he was paid as full-time staff. When he was music director for another church in Pennsylvania, he was paid as part-time staff.
While being paid for ministry services would be opportune, my husband at this time is more interested in any opportunity to serve a church - paid or not.
Hi Mrs Barlow! My wife and I are in the preparation process of planting a non-denominational life-giving church. Although we are not 100% sure, we think that Asheville will be the location. We want to plant strong and large. We would probably be moving to Asheville in early August and we would prepare our launch team from there. One of our main needs and wishes is to raise up a strong worship team from the beginning. I would be very interested in speaking to you and your husband about this! Blessings!!!
