What I don't think you realize is that the people who are so against tourists & transplants love the idea of being able to rent out their house as a vacation home. The reason being is now for the first time we will be able to set up our homes as vacation rentals, we will be able to charge what ever we want per night to stay in our homes. The nicer the house, the nicer the area, the nicer the view the more amenities you offer your guests the more you can charge. This is finally our way of making money & taking advantage of the transplants & vacationers, milking them for every dime we can get out of them. I could offer my home for $2000 a week & if the tourists think it is nice enough then they will be more than willing to pay that to be able to stay in a private house on a private lot in the woods by a running stream. I may not even pay anywhere near $2000 a month for my mortgage but if I can get my home rented every week during the busy months then I can pocket $8000 a month, which is 10 times the money I earn now working in the medical field.
What am I not understanding...if you log onto vrbo dot com you'll find at least 200 rentals or more. Many of those are in Asheville rather than outlying areas. We've been renting vacation houses in Asheville for about four years now, several times a year. Some of them are in Grove Park, Montford, West Asheville, Vance Gap. What am I missing? I certainly didn't realize that short term vacation rentals were illegal?
