Hello all. I would really like to celebrate my 25th birthday this year by travelling to the mountains, floating down a river with a cooler of beer and staying in a comfy cabin for the weekend. Some people have suggested Cherokee/Bryson City, but I'm not familiar with the area. Any suggestions?

If I could walk (or drive very little) to a river where tubes are rented that would be fabulous. I also wouldn't mind adding a short hiking trip and gem mining adventure to my itinerary.

I would probably bring about three couples and would want either a hotel suite or cabin with separate bedrooms. This would be in mid-August. I'm thinking the weekend of August 12-15th.

Suggest away folks!

I've got one suggestion and it may save your life; don't mix drinking with water sports. Many people every year come here to enjoy the water and beer and go home in a body bag. Before you put that cooler in the boat give someone on shore your family contact info. Have a GREAT visit!

Pretty much agree with this.....If you still want to make the tubing trip i suggest the Tuckasegee River near Dillsboro

American Whitewater - Section 3. Dillsboro to Rt. 1392, Tuckasegee North Carolina, US

Try Headwaters Outfitters in Rosman - they offer tubing trips on the French Broad - the water is warm and shallow.
