South Carolina does intend to route US-221 on a four-lane facility from Chesnee to the North Carolina state line in the future. The holdup resides with the City of Chesnee of whether to widen the current route through the central business district or build a new route eastward around the city.

So some time in ''the future'' SC might widen the road...meanwhile NC wastes money widening a road,building two bridges for a road that isn't really needed.

At least I haven't heard anyone who thinks it is.

I'm all for safe roads and planning for future needs.

What I'm against is spending billions of dollars widening rural roads across the state, then turning around and saying there's no money for more important projects, such as the I-26 connector and widening.
