Hi,

My dog is likely suffering from some sort of cancer, and I'd like to examine alternative treatments.

Can anyone recommend a holistic vet within an hour of Asheville?

Also, if any of you have direct experience with treating your dog for cancer, could you send me a direct message; I'd like to hear your experiences.

Thank you.

Haw Creek Animal Hospital, Dr. Sinclair, is the best holistic vet in the region. My dog has had mast cell tumors and mammary cancer, both of which were removed by surgery though and hadn't gotten into the lymph nodes yet. So that was the extent of my experience. The only advice I can give you is really look at what you feed your dog. Food is one of the most important things for your dog, just like a human. You wouldn't eat mcdonalds all day every day so make sure you are feeding your dog real dog food and not crappy good for nothing stuff Purina or pedigree. I feed mine acana.

Also, look into the book, "Dog Cancer Survival guide". I can send you the ebook version if you'd like, just send me a direct message.

Lastly. I'm so sorry and I wish you and your dog good luck! Cancer is the worst word in the world to hear, especially when its about your dog, which to me are like my kids.

I'm so sorry. What kind of cancer? The diet you put your dog on depends a lot on what you are fighting.

Thanks for the helpful info and kind words. Haw Creek AH came up often in my search, so that's good.

As to food, I've never fed him that stuff . . . so far, looks like high protein/fat and low carb diets are best.

Thanks. There is no definitive diagnosis yet, I'm just trying to "plan for the worst and hope for the best".

I should have added that the likely candidate would be chronic lymphocytic leukemia, if it is indeed cancer.

I have two cats that I feed canned food and a high-quality dry food with zero grains.

My vet recommended taking away the dry food completely. He says the newest research says they can't fully absorb the dry stuff and it gets stored as fat. That leads to diabetes and other health problems.

This seems to be in line with things I've read elsewhere.

It's tough though. My cats really love having the variety of wet and dry.
