My daughter lives in Brevard so I'll be moving to the area soon (I hope). I am traditional when it comes to family and community values and, although I'm not Christian, I hold any person of any faith in high esteem. Here is my question: I do not look traditional, and my lifestyle is rock and roll. If someone has a punk haircut and a ring in their nose (I don't), can they expect ridicule, abuse, fights, or is the area "live and let live", generally.

You'll be fine although there isn't a lot of rock and roll in Brevard.
youll be fine....i have Hair down to my waist, wear Metal T shirts(think Bathory, Emperor, Burzum), etc...all over Waynesville, i get the occasional "you need to cut your hair because Blah Blah Blah" but thats about it....people are generally pretty laid back around here...
Just looking at voting records, Brevard seems a little bit more liberal than most of the other towns in WNC. As mentioned, the summer camps, music school and college bring in young people. Plus with proximity to the forest, you get a lot of hikers, mountain bikers, etc ... and that's an eclectic group.
Can't do much better than the Steep Canyon Rangers.
