we promised our kids a bunny each after we moved (in addition to the dog and the cats we already have).
well, they did not forget about it, as we parents were hoping, so we are investigating where to get the bunnies from.
I wasn't able to find a local rescue group, maybe someone here has an idea ?

we live in south asheville. would love to get them from someone with knowledge, since we want healthy one's and, important !!, same gender .

thanks

The Animal Shelter usually has several bunnies. A good, healthy bunny is a good weight, has a glossy coat that doesn't have dandruff, and their front teeth meet up perfectly. If they have an underbite or overbite then the teeth wont wear down as they chew and you will have to clip the teeth periodically or they can't eat (had one like this one time). Pet shops are bad places to get bunnies, just like puppies. We bought one from a pet shop once and he was a genetic mess. Two of our bunnies were from breeders (can't say who anymore - long time ago) and the fourth was a rescue. All our bunnies were boys and we had them all neutered. They are much better pets this way.

The WNC Mountain State Fair will be coming up in another month or so. They usually have a rabbit show. This would be a good place to meet breeders with healthy pets.

BTW - you can litterbox train them. It's not like a cat. First you find out where they prefer to pee and that's where you put the box. After they are use to the box you can GRADUALLY move it to where you prefer. As for the bunny beans - they'll drop them everywhere but if you have a dog they'll find it a delicasy so that problems solved :-)
