Does anyone know of any sweet cliffs that me and my friends could jump/dive off of? We are looking for swimming holes, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, or anything you can find! We live in Andrews, NC and we are looking to make a trip before summer ends and a cliff jumping trip would be sweet! im willing to venture 5-10 hours out as long as there are spots on the way! any contributions are well thanked!

it's not a cliff but it's a sweet place to slide down the falls and not nearly as crowded as Sliding Rock - it's in the Gorges State Park (which has recently opened) take the trail to Rainbow Falls and just above that - not even a 1/4 mile is Bust your Butt Falls - we watched a groups of little girls go over numerous times and it looked like a blast - the hike in is not too long and there are swimming holes along the way - have fun and be safe

Oh my god. Please don't do that.

Look at the citizen times front page two. 3 PEOPLE were injured/or died this weekend jumping from area waterfalls. You don't know whats at the bottom and could lose your footing on a slippery rock and kill yourself.

Several of the links I posted mentioned the danger and the deaths that have come of this activity. Even the Turtleback Sliding Rock has been the scene of drownings.

Linville Gorge has some good spots. My favorite swimming hole is there, complete with multiple cliffs for jumping, a short adn steep waterfall to ride, a nice "pool" for swimming and lots of good sunny rock to dry out and rest on. Now, I can't tell you exactly where it is because it's already too crowded for my tastes, but exploring the gorge and the river is half the fun!

I go up there quite a bit, and I dont find anything real dangerous about the falls themselves. However, you will see numerous people go down standing up. Another is people going off right after someone, and landing on top of them because they didnt give them enough time to swim out of the way. So really, most stuff that goes wrong up there is from people screwing around doing stupid stuff.

Every year there are deaths from naieve visitors looking for the above type of "excitement".

Stop and think about the first responders who risk their own lives in the mountains trying to save foolish thrill seekers, and/or retrieving their broken bodies.

This is very serious -- educate yourselves by reading accounts of those who have died or been paralyzed for life by these activities. Additionally, it can be illegal in many areas to do so.
