This forum should be better than that!
Had a group of men taken off their shirts no one would have cared and there certainly would not have been insensitive comments voiced so strongly. It was a silly protest, we all do silly things but does it warrant such crude comments? Until something like this barely makes a wimper we have a lot of growing up to do. And in my opinion that was the point.
While I completely agree that there's no need for insults, I don't agree with the rest of your post. You say "until...this barely makes a wimper [sic]", yet weren't the organizers the ones who trumpeted this thing the loudest? What was the purpose of this protest, other than to draw attention to themselves? If this group had just casually, and unannounced, taken off their tops while hanging out in the park, it likely would have been a non-event, at least outside of Asheville. Instead we had press releases and a "rally", with a stage and microphones and everything to announce to the world that "Hey, we have thingies!" Seems like an odd way to make the point.

All protests are meant to draw attention to yourself. Why should this one be different? If a tree falls in the forest....... I guess what I hope for in the future would be for this publicized event to hold as much rapt attention as if a dozen middle aged men had made public their intention of taking off their shirts.
The insults and prepubescent jokes even on this forum no less, is what really winds me up. Even if these womens intent was of some other form, in my opinion the point that was made was that the simple act of taking off a shirt could invite such cruelty. Women have come a long way but they have a long way to go. Women have to stop being womens worst enemy and men have to grow up!.

I'm confused .... I've re-read the entire thread and less the exception of one post, which I didn't even really understand (what's a coyote?) and one that was quite pleased with the notion of women going topless

What exactly in these posts were "insulting", "insensitive", "crude" and "prepubescent"?

Please Tucler enlighten me because I'm not seeing it. What I do see is a collection of people who are voicing an opposite opinion but if you're seeing or reading something different please let us know. I think honest dialogue is tantamount to a healthy, open society.

I still stand firm on my position that these protesters could have chosen a more dignified way of getting their point across.

So topless women held this rally to draw attention to the fact that they don't want to draw attention? A little pretzel logic there, don't you think?

Do you see it as "voicing an opposite opinion" when these women are referred to as "that which you would find in a trailer park? Or perhaps calling them coyote ugly ( the reference you did not get) is just a well thought out apposing view point. Another questions their mentality which is crude but if you believe that it is an apposing view point I will give you that one.
And then you have the men that are still little boys and have no problem with the rally "as long as they have something to show off".
If you see these remarks as just a well thought out critical assessment of the protest then we just disagree.
This forum should be a safe haven from the day to day vitriol that we encounter everyday.

Most of us would prefer to forget the whole ridiculous affair it was pointless and in poor taste. The media sure helped keep it alive by even covering Carl Dumbpower's even more ridiculous child abuse charge. Let's move on..........................

To be a Psychologist, this guy is one angry whack job that hates everything.

Of course his raging and ranting about it every year makes him the greatest promoter of this event in the local media every year. He must have had his mug on the local news about every day leading up to the event.

If people enjoy it, he's against it for to him it must mean they are a socialists (which is how he labels anyone that is even slightly liberal).

He is super conservative, and would end all social programs, and probably try to ban fun if he had the influence. Which the fact he has little since not being re-elected to city council, and loosing in his bid to be a congressman, has really turned him into an angry unpleasant man.

Did you see these women in person or on YouTube? I saw the latter. And it was rather strange. I havent' been able to have sex since.

The suit is overreaching by a man who can't keep himself from the spotlight. If drawing attention to oneself was a crime, I'd like to be on the jury.
