Looking for ideas on low key vacation in Asheville/Brevard area (2 adults), open to suggestions. Prefer outdoors activities, good food but not $$$$ nor hole in the ground, cool, fun and memorable. Looking for great out of the way spots. We live in Concord, NC (2 years), but not yet visted Asheville (loved Brevard). If you have other places to visit, that would appreciated as well. Yes to B&B, no to camping. Thank you in advance!
Pisgah Inn is always a good choice. Beautiful views, a bit secluded, yet you'll have relatively easy access to Asheville, Brevard, Waynesville, Maggie Valley, etc. should you want to explore a bit.

There are some lovely B&B's in Asheville. As for Hendersonville, I would recommend The Melange, the Elisabeth Leigh Inn for very nice accomodations... you can Google them for details. Off the top of my head I cannot name some in Asheville, but there are several. Here is a website that may help you.
If you are looking to save some money, I'd suggest waiting until November. You can rent a nice little house out for a day or two around the asheville area for less than a hotel room at that time of year via vacation rentals by owner dot com. Plus you get gorgeous mnt views with the leaves gone. If you are near asheville you can get the hiking and downtown in. Enjoy!
I think it is hard to beat the Waynesville Inn in terms of value.
It's a 1920s country club that has evolved into a 'resort' of sorts: golf & spa.
Two restaurants on site with good and reasonably priced food - kid friendly.
The economy rooms are a little on the shabby side, but are scheduled to be redone soon.
Huge porch on the rear of the main building with rocking chairs & wifi - nice way to end the day.
Great staff.
Waynesville is a great location to use as a base for day trips around the area.
If you are looking for low-key and lots of outdoor activities, Brevard is sandwiched between Pisgah National Forest and Dupont State Forest. From Main Street, you can be in Pisgah in 5 minutes and Dupont in 15 minutes. It is the "Land of Waterfalls." From Asheville, you can get into nature within 30 minutes, but it is a city, and does have some minimal traffic. Brevard has several quaint b&b's, like the Inn on Main Street and the Red House Inn. There are many good restaurants on Main Street, such as Hob Nob, Marcos, and Square Root. Another good option is the Hampton Inn, which is right at the entrance to Pisgah Forest. The Gatekeeper's Table is an excellent hole-in-the-wall restaurant near that, as well as the BBQ place across the street, and believe it or not, Sora's sushi is superb and compares well with any sushi I have eaten across the U.S.
If restaurants are your thing, though, Asheville is the place to be. There are too many wonderful restaurants to even possibly try to list them all, but a few of my favorites down town are Mela (Indian), Jerusalem Garden (Mediteranean), Salsas (Cuban), Tupelo Honey (southern with an Asheville twist)...aaaaaaaah, the list goes on and on. Asheville compares with New Orleans for funky, eclectic shopping. Wandering downtown is quite an experience.
For getting outdoors, you should certainly research some trails to hit, but the more popular ones include Skinny Dip Falls (Parkway), Graveyard Fields (Parkway), Black Balsam (Parkway), Moores Cove (hwy 276), Looking Glass (hwy 276), and Triple Falls (Dupont).
