Any favorites from the Greenville/Spartanburg or Asheville airports? We know one option to any of these is a one-way car rental. We could be gone for long periods of time (if we buy near Hendersonville), so sometimes would not want to park our car at the airport. Flights often cheaper into Charlotte (we'd be coming from overseas), I imagine a shuttle would be super expensive, if even possible. Thanks.

Henderson County runs an hourly weekday route from Hendersonville to AVL for $.75 It's the "Blue Route" on this page. They run several other routes around the county as well which link to the airport route downtown. I've never ridden it before so I'm not sure what it's like. I don't think they have a park and ride anywhere, but maybe you could e-mail them and ask about it.

The Asheville Airport is south of Asheville proper, which Hendersonville is a little further south of Asheville proper, too. You can take a cab for very little money and go from the Asheville Airport to Hendersonville in about ten minutes. I believe there's a shuttle, too. Takes maybe 15 minutes by cab if you want to go to Asheville from our airport, altho it depends on what part of Asheville you stay, visit, live at, and so since a cab ride would be pretty expensive, there's also a shuttle that will take you.

We live in Asheville, so if we want to fly somewhere, we leave the car in the airport lot so it will be right there for us when we come back to drive home, it's not very expensive to park per day. But if you want to fly away for a month or something like that, then you would want to search for shuttle maps to and from the airport and check times, then compare cost to cabs, and work out how you want to do your comings and goings to the airport, as relates to either Hendersonville or Asheville. See, the airport is sort of in between Hendersonville and Asheville, and many people commute from Hendersonville to Asheville for their jobs, so it's not a long ways. But it is what I would call a little drive, not an adjacent community exactly, the way Weaverville is, but it is in general not a big deal to go between the two towns. I hope that gives you a better idea of at least the way Hendersonville works with the airport, it's very close by.

Now, Greenville SC is down the mountain. When you drive up from that general area, you can see the mountain rise up almost like a cliff, so it's a rather inconvenient trip if you're going to do it often. It's hilly, rather long, and when compared to driving to Hendersonville to the Asheville airport, it doesn't make much sense to do the Greenville drive unless you're really trying to save money. Now, the drive from the Charlotte airport is ridiculously long, I really do not understand why people will avoid paying the extra $100 or whatever it is to go right into the Asheville airport if you are planning on living or staying awhile in either Hendersonville or Asheville. But there are people who disagree with me, and especially about the Greenville drive. At least driving up here from Greenville, Hendersonville is one of the first regular towns you get to along I-26. But Charlotte, heck, I rarely go down there... in fact, in all the years I've lived up here, which is around 30 years, I haven't gone down there for whatever. I HAVE done a day drive to Hickory to visit the furniture stores, and also up to Spruce Pine from here, but that's it. When I was a lot younger, I used to live in the eastern and also central parts of the state, and I didn't think anything of crossing the whole state in one day, or visiting Charlotte from east of there, or going from Raleigh to the beaches, or coming up to the mountains to have a look-see or visit from anywhere east. It's leaving out of here that I don't care for.
