Hi!

Looks like my family and I will be moving to Waynesville within a month or so. My husband works from home and requires good, reliable internet service. I was just down in Waynesville this week and was told Charter is the main provider there, but "they aren't great". We are used to both ATT Uverse & Verizon FIOS which we have been pleased with. My husband said he had DirectTV on a recent business trip and TV was great but he didn't access internet through it. Can anyone tell me how quick/reliable internet with DirectTV is?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

P.

Charter gets some mixed reviews, even from friends of ours that have it.
However, for an internet/cable combo it is really the only game in town.

There may be some homes that have some ATT&T U Verse availability; I just don't know anyone that does...And, no VZ Fios anywhere in Haywood County that I am aware of.

Direct or DISH are both fine for TV, HD TV, HD DVR, et al but their 'internet' is basically dial up in real world use, regardless of their current bs marketing.

Up where I live, above Laurel Ridge CC, cable has been 'coming' since 2001, but it won't get to me in my lifetime.
Thus, we use DISH for TV, (though thinking about Direct), and a small private wireless service for internet. But, if I had access to Charter, I would rec'd that, especially for internet.

My 50Cts...Welcome to Waynesville! I hope you enjoy it! We really like living here.
GL, md

Yeah, don't expect fiber anywere in Haywood county anytime soon. I don't know if it's even available in Asheville yet. Charter Cable or AT&T DSL are your only real options, unless you are high up on a mountain and have a direct line of sight to one of those wireless providers like MD mentions above.

I have used 3 over the past 12 years: one is out of biz, and one is a good friend, but a very spotty system that I don't rec'd.
The one I have been using for the past few years is:
High Speed Internet Access | Asheville | Waynesville | Mars Hill | Weaverville

They are not cheap, ~$50 a month, and not cable fast: ~6-10 Mbps down, a few up. Obviously walking pace compared to most cable of ~12-25 down/4-5 up. But, quite reliable in terms of constant connection. Very customer oriented and technically knowledgeable, and always trying to push up their 'speed' year after year.

On our Mtn it is the only game; others may have better luck with VZ wireless air cards, etc., depending on their locale, line of sight.
