Well, we are indeed Hickory bound!!! I am very excited and have fallen in love with the area! We will be renting near Catawba Springs and am hoping for some suggestions on cable/satellite, which cell service gets best coverage, as well as Internet? Thank you and we will be out there in 2-1/2 weeks!!!!! Whoo hoo!!!

TIA

I'm jealous! Good luck. I'm looking at 11 months before we might make it to NC.

Charter easily has the best internet. When I lived in Lenoir, I had Charter internet and DirecTV. It was actually cheaper than just having Charter for everything.

I agree with Charter wherever it's available.

If you don't bundle everything with Charter, look at Verizon for cell phone. It has excellent coverage nearly everywhere, even in the mountains.

This is true. Verizon easily has the best coverage in NC. Anytime someone mentions they don't have signal, I ask them who their carrier is. It's always Sprint or T-Mobile or AT&T. Anything that uses Verizon's towers is good too (prepaid, etc.)

Charter Internet (for speed) and Verizon (for coverage).
That's a great area of town to live.

Catawba Springs, as in the golf club? Let us know when you get here OP. It's a shame you'll miss the end of the Crawdads season. Playoff game is next Friday night, with fireworks to follow. Lenoir-Rhyne University football is just around the corner though!

Charter internet is very good, and the TV service is overall good also, with a good selection of HD channels. But there is always the yearly haggle over rate increases, so it may be worthwhile to compare with DirecTV or Dish.

And an outside antenna is also a good option as a back up plan, or to receive channels from neighboring regional markets. In Hickory, you should receive most major Charlotte channels, as well as some from Asheville and Greenville-Spartanburg. And perhaps even Winston-Salem or Greensboro. A good fringe area antenna is the Winegard 7698, designed for High VHF and UHF. and possibly a Winegard LNA-100 or LNA-200 amplifier. Or you may luck out and still find an Antennacraft HBU-33 or HBU-55 antenna on clearance at Radioshack somewhere.

I just read something last week that there is a really good chance that Publix will be opening a store in Hickory.
