Battery Park is my favorite, but love them all.

It's not a coffee/book shop, but you have to go there https://frenchbroadchocolates.com/the-chocolate-lounge/. It is so good. Love the Highland Mocha Stout Cake and I usually do the lavender and honey liquid truffle.

On Main Street a block south of the thriving downtown.

This OP has Waynesville on the trip agenda! Let's see, the last time we drove through Waynesville was back in 1973 when our tire went flat. We were 11 and 9-year old kids, but I recall thinking Waynesville was a nice town. The mechanic was so quick that we did not stay long. Fixed tire and on to Pisgah to backpack. But I am looking forward to visiting again.

Thanks for the info!

And more thanks to Thegofoxgo, Bilbono and Christine7910. Making me hungry!

Save a few autumn leaves for us,

A prospective Asheville émigré asked in another forum about intellectual life and it gave me the impression of a rich intellectual life in Asheville. Are the coffehouses scenes for intellectual discussion? Which ones, what times, is the discussion open to visitors or just regulars. Other venues? Do spontaneous discussions crop up more often in Asheville than other cities?

I spent an hour going through "Meetups Asheville" to take a look at the spontaneous type of groups, and there are a lot of different assemblages looking for discussions! All manner of groups. I think that would be a nice way to window shop whatever suits your fancy!

Meetups is a great invention, but I wouldn't call it spontaneous.
