Lots of TTD/See/Visit and enjoy in Waynesville and close surrounding area, in our experience...
Downtown is thriving: few to no empty store fronts, lots of artsyfartsy galleries, shops, microbrews, places to eat, (as BC1960's TA link shows), and it is literally surrounded by the Blue Ridge/Balsam Mtns. Big box stores on outskirts of town.
3 area golf courses, if one chases the ball.
Yes I am a bit of a homer, as we have lived here since Sept 2001.
I have posted many times on 'Waynesville', so I will skip the repetitive term paper, here.
When you get to Waynesville, wander down Main Street and talk to the shop owners (Smokey Mountain Dog Bakery is awesome and loves to have you bring your pooch in to visit!). They will suggest restaurants, hiking nearby and other things (the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings is lots of fun) to do in the area. I have yet to meet a shop owner who wasn't friendly and forthcoming with sharing information about their town.
