Weather not withstanding I’d rather live in the mountains and vacation at the the beach than the other way around. The mountains take away my stress and I love walking in the woods and I’d miss trees. But I can see the other argument, too. It’s nice to have the option! Good luck!
"Depending on exactly how you measure the expert consensus, it’s somewhere between 90% and 100% that agree humans are responsible for climate change, with most of our studies finding 97% consensus among publishing climate scientists."
Humans and cows. Cows are a bigger problem than most people realize, in terms of emission issues.
New to this forum so weighing in late- believe there are many considering Asheville or Wilmington.
Like previously stated, Mountains versus Ocean. I chose to purchase near the ocean. “Wilmington ticks all the boxes” for me: Ocean, Good Golf, Good Restaurants, Good Hospitals, College Town, Near an airport, Parks, German Car Dealers, Organic Food, Arts, Culture, and near many other beaches. Wrightsville Beach- the local one is lovely. The River Walk wasn’t on the list, but a great extra: dining, watering holes, sight seeing. An easy place to travel to, and offers extended family some key reasons to visit.
I live in Emerald Isle on the NC coast. I plan to buy a cabin in the mountains by the summer so I can go back and forth. It is hard to choose. Best advice is check the flood maps - even though my house is 2 houses to the beach I am on a high spot so no mandatory flood insurance. I took it out anyway. When not mandatory it is not expensive. I think i pay about 300 per year for it. Now wind and hail will cost you. I think i pay 2k per year for that. I have another house just off the island in Cape Carteret and that wind and hail is the about the same cost. Even if you add up all the insurances - homeowner, Wind/Hail, and flood it is nothing compared to LI taxes. I had a few houses in Smithtown long ago. I relocated a few times and ended up in NC. No reason you cannot enjoy both locations. You don't have to go all out on both homes.
