Greetings All. Kids are 11, 13, and 15. We have three full days in Asheville this week. Done a bit of reading; was hoping for some highlights, “must do’s” for first time visitors. Open to hikes, city explorations, etc. Have wanted to visit here for years, this is our first time. Have taken the brood to Portland, Maine, out west, loved it all, pretty open-minded kids. Many thanks.

There are a multitude of outdoor activities in the Asheville area that kids enjoy. Some of my favorites are Biltmore Estate (has kids activities), NC Nature Center, and Pisgah National Forest (this is out from Brevard). The kids would also enjoy Elijah Gem Mining and the Pinball Museum (inside) in Hendersonville, about 30 minutes south of Asheville.

Your kids are near the same age as ours when we moved to AVL in 2017. A favorite of theirs was the Biltmore Estate, which honestly is best enjoyed over a two day period if you really want to take your time and enjoy yourself.

Pisgah Forest in Brevard was a really good time to, but get there early as the crowds start piling in by early afternoon. Be sure to hit the Dairy Bar ice cream shop outside of the entrance (next to the Marathon gas station across the intersection) for a special treat afterwards.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is also fun. I’d head north out of Asheville and drive all the way up to Mt Mitchell. Just check to make sure all sections are open before heading out. Could also jump on it from Pisgah Forest in Brevard and take it all the way back up to AVL too. Enjoy!

A couple of months late, BB already steered the thread to that location.
