Heck do like us locals do, hit a secondary road and look for blackberry bushes on the side of the road. Get out and pick all you want. Then head up to the Shining Rock Wilderness area in about a month and a half and pick all the blueberries you want. Doesn't cost a cent!!! OR, you can goto the Earth Fare and just buy them, thats what you will probably do. Right! Let the kids experience the fun of picking berries (off the shelf).

Wow, thanks for the insult. No, I won't be "picking berries off the shelf"...the point is not the berries...the point is to spend quality time with my children. Many great memories I have of my childhood include a trip to the blueberry farm each summer with my grandparents.
a2zmom, why does it have to be to a farm. Blackberries are free if you'll just drive down any state secondary road and look. They will be growing on the sides of the road on state right of way. Pick your heart out for free. Rest assured they will taste better than farm raised berries. As far as blueberries go to the Graveyard fields on the parkway, walk about 1/2 mile and pick your heart out there. They are free, and guaranteed to tast better than farm raised berries. Get your kids out into nature. Put some fresh air in your lungs. That is a good way to spend time with our kids. Who knows you might run learn to appreciate nature.

PS: I didn't mean to insult you, just point out that there are other places to get fruit and vegetables rather than the grocery store. If you will look around or ask a native, it is quicker and simpler though to go to the store.
Badtiger - I'm kinda partial to farms because my sister and bil are farmers...I KNOW how hard to people work for a living...also, my children are 9 and 4...a farm would be a much safer place for my kids to pick. Again, no so much about the berries, but the time spent together!
