I will be moving from a very diverse area of the country to Murphy, NC. Can anyone tell me about the culture there?

I like the outdoors, meeting new folks, fishing and things like that.

Not much there, not much to do, far from any activities. But very pretty.

Default Murphy

I live in Texas but visit as often as possible. family has owned land there forever (part cherolee) You'll find lots of things to do in and around Murphy. The area is truly beautiful (other then the population growth population has doubled in the last year) I recommend white water rafting on Ocoee, Fields of the Woods, hike in National Forests (several to pick from Murphy is surrounded by National Forests), skiing, fishing, hunting, visit the Cherokee reservation, Cherokee Museum, see the Cherokee production "Unto these Hills" (I've seen it 6 times and cry everytime) Reservation also has a CASINO, visit Mining Museum in Ducktown, TN If your a rock hound you'll be in heaven. Worlds largest Saphire was found in NC (800 pounds) the area is rich in natural resources.

Everything is just a short drive away - Chattanooga, Gatlinburg, Atlanta, etc.

What class of rapids are in that area? and I wonder if they will be less of standard due to the lack of rain.

Default 1996 Olympic Racing Rapids

Great white water rafting and the lack of rain shouldn't be a problem. Water is managed by the TVA If not familiar with the TVA you should research their operation of the water system in that area, they can be extremely dangerous if unaware. The image of this area is etched in my mind and I hope you will come to love it as much as I do. Please let me know if you do check it out.
