Thanks everyone. I have about 3 years before I can go anywhere, so I have some time to do some research. One thing I'm excited about is that it looks like property/school taxes are about 1/10 of my current taxes (Chappaqua, NY, about 50 mins north of NYC). I am on the politically more liberal side, love great views and a house set off in the woods, love my dogs and cats, love riding horses, hiking, biking, snowshoeing,... I will either need to work through a clinic, join a group, or start my own practice. I do a lot of work with kids, teens, and families. I like the idea of being near a college, and may be interested in working with that population. Black Mountain intrigues me. I will have to take a trip down there. Weird to talk about moving to a place I've never been! Also, wondering about opportunities for young people, in case I can lure one of my kids to join me down there!

I would check out Weaverville. It is very close to Asheville, has a cute downtown, the locals are friendly and everyone is in-love with Weaverville. The taxes are less, and its only a few minute drive to Asheville. The locals protect and brag about this small town often. It has all the necessities, and if you need more than is there, well Asheville is just 15 minutes away.
