Hello!

I am a student who will be relocating to North Carolina from Chicago. I will be attending school in Hickory, NC, but prefer the Asheville area. Obviously, the commute will probably be too heavy from Hickory to Asheville every day, but I was wondering if anyone knew any great towns between Asheville and Hickory that wouldn't be too bad of a commute?

Keep in my mind I will be moving with my fiance - we are both in our mid 20's.

Thanks in advance!

why not just live in Hickory until you finish school...it's a nice town...not Asheville...but still nice.

I guess the town of Marion is about half-way...but I'd MUCH rather live in Hickory than Marion.

I agree with the above poster, Marion is such a tiny place and so far away, that Hickory would be a much happier choice. You can come up to Asheville on long weekends and enjoy that a lot. What you could do is, just a few miles north-ish on the outskirts of Hickory there are some wilder mountainous type parks where you might could find a place nearby to live.
