40 yr old woman seeking a new place to live. I passed through Wichita last year .I have researched it and it seems really cheap to live there? I lead a simple life enjoying karaoke, thrift stores and movies. I work in the Hospitality industry. How friendly is Wichita? Is It too boring?

We have all of the things here that you said you like. I think people in Wichita are friendly but it's southern hospitality friendliness. Where are you coming from? Wichita is cheap, but wages aren't great. However thats true of most cities around here.

Well I think Wichita isn't a bad town. This year has been brutally hot. We just set a record today for our 51st day over 100 degrees. But this isn't the norm, however it seems like everywhere is setting weather records in some capacity. Wichita is 2.5 hrs from Kansas City, OKC and 3 hrs from Tulsa. Traffic is almost non existent. The city is very easy to get around. We have a good selection of restuarants and plenty of things to do. However, this isn't a huge metro area so you will find that some of the entertainment found here is on a smaller scale. It kind of depends on what you are looking for in a town. Your criteria could be met in most cities in the country. When you say you work in the hospitality industry, I'm not exactly sure what the means. Hotels? We've got plenty. Anything more specific you need to know, feel free to ask.

You might like Wichita, but it will be like a completely alien world compared to Kentucky. I should know considering I've lived in KS and the Louisville area. You sound like you're willing to give a new place a try, though. Wichita tends to be a rather polarizing place. Most people either really like it or hate it. Not much middle ground...

Have you also considered Springfield, MO? It has a lower cost of living than Wichita and is a bit smaller. It's also very similar to Kentucky culturally, so it might have a more familiar feel.

Earlier I said Wichita friendliness is like southern hospitality. I meant that it's NOT like a southern hospitality. It's more of a midwestern friendliness. Springfield, MO is a good choice. You might also look at Tulsa, OK or OKC. OKC has a very good economy compared to other cities. I also saw you posted in the ABQ forum, that's a nice choice. Wichita is nice, but it's ordinary medium sized city. Ordinary isn't bad, but other than airline industry, it's not truly unique. But if you find good friends here, you'll probably like it.
