What To Do In Wichita? (Ellsworth, Sedgwick: hotels, house, theater)

Hello -

I will be visiting Wichita for a few days on business. What should I do & see while I am there? What are the "must-see's" of Wichita that I shouldn't miss?

Not too much to do in Wichita besides go to restaurants and bars - and there are plenty. At certain times of the year there are special events, like the Wichita Grand Opera, that are great if you can get tickets, but other than that, there's just not much.

There are several museums. The Wichita Art Museum is very nice. Exploration Place is more kid-oriented. The Museum of Modern Treasures is interesting, but different. It's a big mish-mash of all kinds of exhibits - more like a private collection. Skip the Indian Center, it's a disappointment.

The Sedgwick Zoo is nice.

I know this is going to sound like a weird suggestion to make, but if you're up for a movie, definitely go to the Warren on East 13th and see whatever's playing in the balcony. We moved away from Wichita and we really miss going to the Warren. It was nice to get big roomy seats and be able to have dinner and a cocktail while we watched the movie.

You can check the Convention Center website for special events, but otherwise I'd bug my business colleagues to take me out if I were you!

Get drunk and see the gals! The only "must see" is the Keeper of the Plains". He ain't hard to find- just look for a big Indian standing by the river! Also if you learn "the boot scoot boogie" it will help with the gals!

I love the Indian center. I visit each time I'm in Wichita. Its also close to the Keeper of the Plains- pack a picnic lunch.

Well you cant got to a casino. But if you go to KC 180 miles up tons of things to do.

Wichita isn't too bad for entertainment options. You have to dig a little deeper sometimes to find stuff to do here. The stuff that is here is very accessible, and usually pretty resonable. Final Friday art gallery crawls, ice skating, Wichita Art museum had different exhibits throughout the year. Riverside park has summer concerts, fountains for kids, bike trails etc. Very nice disc golf course at Oak park. The kansas Cliff Club is a private climbing gym that is amazing. Very nice people, great facility, and at least half the price of other gyms. The YMCA out by my house on W. 21st St. is also very nice too. I think you have to get involved to be happy with the entertainment. If you are into mtn biking, there is a very nice place just e. of Ark City called Camp Horizon. Also good hiking trails at Kanapolis lake, by Ellsworth, and crosstimbers state park. All of these options are about 1.5-2 hrs away though.

The Diamond W Wranglers at Old Cowtown Museum. I did an event for friends from all over and took them to see this show. It, literally, had them laughing and crying because these cowboy singers have such a good show. One of our party was from Spain and couldn't understand all the words but she got the emotion: we asked her if she understood and she said "No, but yes," because the music is so expressive.

The Museum of World Treasures is a good museum. It does have a lot of variety, because - I believe - it was a private collection before the family started the museum. That it was a private collection is impressive in itself. It has everything from dinosaurs to celebrity autographs to a South American mummy. I'm really impressed with the exhibits they have of items from America's wars - And I'm really not into war, but I had four uncles in WWII and grew up during Vietnam, so seeing those exhibits is really touching to me.

January 30 - April 4 Cabaret Oldtown is having a review of their "favorite and most popular moments". It's small, local entertainment, but a lot of fun.

Crown Uptown Dinner Theater is presenting Club Morocco a 40's style mystery musical spoof.

There's an upscale area on the northeast side with fancier restaurants, but I don't think there's much entertainment there. And, I don't remember what the area is called.

There are things to do in Wichita. It depends, somewhat, on whaat you're used to.

Wichita? You are visiting Wichita and want to know what to see? You are one of 3 people who went or are going to Wichita and want to know what to do. No one goes to Wichita to see anything but a job interview or family. If not for one of these two things the city would blow away and rightfully so. Old town is ok for about 1 hour, then you get sick of the drunks and people in line to get 10$ for plasma, or churches giving out food. I would skip Wichita and go directly to Branson, about 240 miles to the east. Much more beautiful, hills and a thousand things to do. Hundreds of shows, and the hotels are around 32 a night. I would spend a week there before I would spend one night in Wichita. Go north 180 miles and spend some time in KC, ten times the things to do there and many fun. Wichita LMAO.
