Well we just returned to Indiana from Williston! At least 3 of us did the forth is still there working.I want to give the facts as I saw them..

Williston is STILL a happening place that I refer to as the cookie jar..People go there to dip money out of the cookie jar and then go home.It works we did that!
Four of us went up there with looking for 20 plus dollar an hour jobs.I ask on this very forum if it would be possible for us to all four get 20 dollar an hour jobs with no experience,It was stated not likely....Well we did ALL have offers of jobs that pay over 20 an hour..The problem is they never offered housing...
I myself had four job offers over 20 dollars an hour.I turned them down over housing.I now have a chance at a good job with housing.
Williston is a crazy town with lots of unemployable people in it.They arrive with no transportation, bad work history and substance abuse problems. There in the parks,Job services, and all over town,Most work a day at the day labor outfits and drink up the money and then go work another day,Thay can do that in Williston..
I was told there were no camping spots near Williston we found five or six ranging from free to 15.00 a night.
People in Williston are extreamly helpful and friendly.
Traffic is terrible..Wal-Mart is packed but food not much higher then here.Resturants are busy and about 3 dollars more than my hometown.Gas about 20 cents a gallon higher.
Job services a big help.Should be first stop.
Bakkan staffing will give you work and keep you in the game while your looking for work.
To sum it up,If your looking for good money Williston is the place to be!It can be done it is being done everydy in Williston. The cookie jar is overflowing come and get it.Im headin back Saturday.Chuck

Well, happy for you...But, We sure don't want to mislead folks about the RV situation, they have been outlawed except for proper RV parks, and who knows if those will remain open during winter.
Nor do we want to encourage even more drunks or drug abusers by making them believe there are jobs a plenty for them. Someone needs to discuss the hiring practices of some of these day labor places. Do you really want to be relying on the type folks you describe to work along side you on a rig????
We want to encourage folks that plan on contributing to the community along w/ the local residents, including the good solid oil field employees residing there. Heaven knows we'll need a larger tax base for all the rehab services for these homeless abusers you're discussing in your post.
North Dakota will never be the same...and more's the pity! imo

I put myself in your place to understand how it feels to watch your city turn in to what you probably dont recognize anymore and I realized I get it because we no longer recognize our cities either. Economically, your town went one direction and our towns went the total opposite. My city is dealing with many of the same issues yours is. Lack of employment brings more crime and despair, lots of substance abuse and a whole lot of shady characters taking advantage of people. These are tough times for so many.

I always thought the good ol Boy activities would be taking place up there making it very hard for some to take a steady job seriously. Ive even thought it would be fun to hang out and BS for a few days with no worries. But the seasons will put an abrupt Halt to that. Thats Good to hear things R still avalible. For Temp Services for the most Part do not want the extra burden or cost for Drug testing for the most part, But too secure a contract with a customer that has work that requires initial Drug Testing and manditory randoms. They will comply to get the buissness. If the Employer dosnt care the temp dosnt either. Thats why there R a couple here in the Twin Cities I call Rent A Drunk LOL Then in some cases after passing the first Drug test Many will hear the call of there Vice and Roll the Dice

It's not the norm for temp work. SOS Staffing does drug screens in house, they are extremely inexpensive.

I think he means it's the norm for temp work in general, not just ND. Because he's right--it IS pretty typical that temp work doesn't drug screen...
