eturner0203: I'm afraid I am not from Williston, but know the town well. I lived there many years back in the 70's & 80's and know many people there. I still go their on a regular basis. It is growing, with many new homes being built, and as seen on previous posts, a Fargo-Valley City development group is coming in this fall to begin work on some new apartments, and 600 homes-townhomes, etc... There is a new court opened called Sand Creek estates in which you can either purchase or rent NEW manufactured homes starting at 700per month (including lot rent). Also check out the link to the local paper. Williston Herald - Online Edition as they have a couple realtors listed in their side bar add...but there are a couple more, including Anderson realty. There isn't much for housing at the moment, but maybe the Sand Creek manufacture park could be a temporary fix for you. As far as shopping goes, limited to the extent of the size of town, but that will probably change over the next few years as the town continues to grow in population. They have a brand new Super-Walmart (225,000 sq ft)...nice down town with JC Penneys, lots of womens clothing stores, coffee shops, antique shops, etc... and other various stores scattered along the "silver strip" and 26th street. Nice schools, parks,...but does get cold in winter (compared to Louisiana) but not much different than any other northern state or town. I know as long as the oil boom continues, they are looking at hiring up to 12,000 new and replacement workers by 2010 according to the experts, but time will tell...all depends I'm sure on the energy markets, etc... I think you will like Williston...it all depends what you like and what you put into it. The people are very friendly, and as oil workers, you will be no stranger, as Williston has been home to ND's oil industry for the past 50 years. People come and go, and you are not considered a stranger as a new person in town...the locals are used to new faces and the industry. Hopefully someone from Williston can come and post more details about their town...I personally like it.
