We were thinking of going to Wisconsin Dells on vacation. Would be interested in finding out a little more about the area.

Thanks

Probably the best source of info for the various attractions and lodging is the semi-official tourism website. My take on the Dells is that it's corny and cheesy as hell, but some of the water parks are stunning and, if you're a Michael Shumacher wannabe, they have some really good kart tracks. Definitely more of a kid-oriented than adult-oriented resort area.

If you like water parks and touristy activities it is not a bad place to visit. We take the kids for a weekend every summer. Noah's Ark is the big water park. If you are loking for a relaxing lake I would go further north.

Having been to the "Dells" MANY times, I would say that it is "FAMILY-ORIENTED" if anything. There are attractions for all age groups. Having said that, some things there are done up real nice. Other things are, in fact, rather "Cheesey". Be prepared for big crowds, and bring a fat wallet.

Expensive, definitely cheesey (for the most part), very crowded. I would definitely prefer a nice lake side vacation but it all depends on the age of your kids and your interests.

If you can do a mid week stay you would be better off. THe weekends are wall to wall people. If you like waterparks and don't mind crowds it is a great place to go.

My husband and I have not been there since we were young. We prefer the solitude of the northwoods. Although Bayfield does get it share of tourists during the summer. If we are up there during the peak times we lie low at our home. But some friends took our 3 children down for a few days last year and they loved it. The hotel they stayed at, Chula Vista had a water park that my kids thought was really fun. They loved riding the Ducks and at night they had fun walking around and checking out all the people. I think it is one of those things that you have to see maybe once. We went to Niagra Falls last year and it was the same type of experience. Lots of people looking to buy a lot of over priced junk. Not for me but I am still glad I went.

Now, if only we could get Moose Jaw to make real beer instead of that girl-p*ss they call beer, us beer enthusiasts might hit the Dells now and then too.
